Dear CAWP members:
As we conclude the Summer of 2007 and embark on yet another adventure for the Fall, with new school and activity schedules, I wanted to let all of you know that the CAWP Board wishes you and your families the best of luck in getting it all together! As we look ahead to what CAWP has in store for us, we are truly hoping that you will come out and support our upcoming events, which include the Fall Meeting (hosted by Hartford P.D.) and the Fall Bus Trip to New York City (hosted by Liz Maziarz).
CAWP will continue to solicit members to do what they can to facilitate a support network for our members and sister agencies as well as the communities they serve. I encourage you to serve on any of CAWP’s committees. This can be as simple as printing the tickets for our Awards Gala or collecting articles for the newsletter. It’s all about making small efforts that contribute to the greater whole.
This Board and other members of this organization have made incredible efforts to assist in fulfilling the mission of CAWP over the years. For that, I applaud and thank them. For those of you that have given it some thought but think that it would be time consuming, committees have now been broken down into small tasks. For those of you that have never been interested in doing anything for the organization, I challenge you to bring your ideas and energy to the table to make a mark in the history of CAWP.
The past year has been full of trials and tribulations for me but has taught me what support means. As the President of this association, I would like to show you all what support means by bringing you all collectively closer to the organization which will enable us to move this support network to a higher level. When someone asks, why should I join CAWP? We all should be able to respond because of the professional support network, the training, the social events, the friendships, the good the organization does, etc….
My plea to you is to take a special interest in making CAWP better this year even if it means attending one meeting, a CAWP sponsored event, submitting an article or ad to the newsletter, volunteering to create and print the Gala tickets, submit your ideas for upcoming events or soliciting new members.
The future of CAWP rests on us, the members.
Karla C. Rodriguez
President of CAWP
P.S. Always stay safe
From the January, 2007 Newsletter
Dear CAWP members:
I hope that all of your families have gotten over those nasty winter bugs that were going around. I had pneumonia and I know that everyone on the CAWP Board had some sort of illness. In any case, the members of the Board and Officer of the Year Award & Banquet committee are working hard in preparation for the 2nd Annual Officer of the Year Awards Gala and I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of the award recipients. It is my sincere hope that you all will support the Gala and the recipients by attending. It is a big day for them and CAWP. Plus, there is going to be good food, drinks and plenty of dancing! Last year, we were oversold.
This year, I challenge the members of CAWP to overselling the event. If you can not attend the Gala, we are planning more fun-filled events that also require your support. . Know this, that CAWP’s mission remains the same - to continue to provide a support network for women in law enforcement. One that encompasses being a women, a mother, a police officer, a wife, a partner, a sister, etc. while building strong friendships. This is what CAWP is all about and I want you all to be a part of it. I look forward to seeing you all at the Gala, the Spring Meeting and future CAWP events. Let’s make this happen, the future of our organization depends on it.
Warm Regards,
Karla C. Rodriguez, CAWP President
